Bachelor of Science Degree Program

By completing undergraduate courses with at least 137 credit hours and passing graduation examinations, students can get the Degree of Bachelor. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors should take no less than fifteen credit hours per semester, and seniors should take no less than nine credit hours per semester. Students who fail more than one-half of his total number of course credits in one semester will be dismissed from the Department.

Master of Science Degree Program
The Department offers Master of Science degree programs in five major areas of specialization: structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic and ocean engineering, construction management, and surveying engineering. Within a maximum of 4 years since entering the master program, a master student must earn at least 24 graduate credit hours and submit a thesis to the examining committee consisting of at least three members. Upon successful completion of the final oral examination conducted by the examining committee, the Master of Science degree is rewarded. Based on the academic performance, a limited number of master students may apply for the direct admission to the doctoral degree program.

Doctoral Degree Program
The Doctoral Degree program of the department gives students opportunities to achieve a high level of scholarly competence, and to develop the capacity of contributing knowledge to the field of civil engineering. A doctoral student chooses a topic of high concentration in consultation with the academic adviser. Within 3 years since entering the doctoral program, a doctoral student must take the qualifying examination consisting of written and oral portions. A certificate of doctoral candidacy is rewarded after successfully completing the qualifying examination. Within a maximum of 4 years for full-time students and 6 years for part-time students, a doctoral student must earn at least 18 graduate credit hours beyond the Master Degree (30 credit hours for those without a master degree) and present a dissertation draft to the dissertation committee (excluding absence from the university). Before presenting the dissertation draft, the doctral candidate must publish at least two articles in international journals. The dissertation committee should consist of at least five members. Upon approval of the draft, the final oral examination is held. A candidate is considered to have completed the final oral examination successfully when none of the committee members gives vote of unsatisfactory. The final oral examination completes the doctoral program.
